I have two medical collection accounts. One for 145.00 dollars and one for 3500.00. They were overlooked due to nasty divorce, no child support paid by ex, etc. You've all heard the stories. I am in a position now to get these cleared up but want to know a few things. Should I first attempt to contact the medical providers? I know the providers fairly well, at least the doctor and dentist involved. Can they remove the collection account if I agree to pay them or should I just send them payment and then dispute it with the CRA. My scores are prettylow and Iwas just wondering how much my scores might go up by paying these two accounts. Also, sorry for being so long winded, but when my spouse ran out a couple of years ago, my house went into foreclosure. Countrywide/FHA worked with me and we got it sold, but at an amount less then what was owed. 4,000 less. Will this count as a foreclosure or what on my CR? Will FHA ever work with me again? The only reason my name was listed on that stupid house was because my ex had to pay back a huge portion of child support and couldn't refi with my then excellent credit history. Bad decisions we all pay for. ANY help would be greatly appreciated as I'm new and need help getting my life back together. Thanks everyone!!! Terri and her boys
Yes, contact the original creditor (the doctors) and make arrangements with them. DO NOT PAY THE CA unless you work out a settlement for deletion of the listing. Your only leverage is the money you owe. The doctors should be able to accept payment (depending on the contract they have with the CA). Once they accept payment, the CA must delete the account (through a validation/dispute) because they no longer are able to legally report it. The doctor may also be able to pull the account back from the CA and have them remove the listing. Exact listing, depends...you have to pull your reports and see what is listed on each of them. Chances are that it will be different on each one Pull all three (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) and find out how the account was listed at the time. Yes FHA will work with you again. Especially after you work with your new friends here at Creditnet, and they help you restore your credit profile to its pristine state. Don't dispair, all is not lost...only misplaced for a few months -Peace, Dave
Thanks Dave. I have no intentions on paying the CA. I have one more kid who needs braces and have put two others through this dentist. If he wants the last, he'll get that collection off of there. Actually I can't believe the SOB put it in the CA but I believe it was most likely his billing dept. and he doesn't even have a clue about it. I'm just so worried about getting a home loan this fall. I'd like conventional because some builders in our area are offering some fantastic deals but FHA might be my only hope. Thanks again for the reply.
