Does anyone know if it is significant or not if a collection acct shows no "date opened" date, just a "date of last activity" date. In my opinion, it means that they have nothing to show when this account was "supposedly" opened, just a date that it was bought from the OC. I keep reporting this account as not mine but it keeps coming back verified. But maybe I can dispute as "incorrect information reported" and get it removed on that basis. Has anyone come across any similar situation in their credit report? Thanks.
I called EQ and asked how could they have verified an obviously bogus set of dates attached to this account listing. She told me that when you challenge as "not mine" all they do is verify name and address with the CA or OC. When you dispute dates.... now that it different! That can't be done electronically. "Electronically".... "Their tape"..... no wonder these "not mine"s come back verified! There is no human interaction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Challenge the dates!
Yes, I had a Prime Option account that had no dates at all. (opened, or dola). I disputed it as incorrect info. They had the nerve to write to me for info. (ssn, bill, license). I ignored the letter and when I went online about 2 weeks later, it was gone. If you do this, watch if they will try to put it back on your report with some dates.
Oh wow! I hadn't thought of that. Name and address...easily verified by tape. No wonder those who dispute a second time with a different reason usually get results quickly. Hm....
In my original dispute letters, the accounts marked "not mine" were all verified. All those challenged on dates were deleted...within 2 weeks. Before I figured it out, I redisputed the verified accounts online... as not mine. Again verified. This time I called in. Asked, in one instance, what the DOLA was? Ans: 5/2001. Hmmm, I moved to SC in 8/2000, how is it that this CA claims that I saw a doctor in TX a year and a half later?! I have not been back to TX. I verbally disputed all the remaining accounts, this time using the dates. I will let you know what happens.
Thanks for the info, SCMom, never thought of questioning dates. I really only just noticed that there wasn't one. I'll let you know how it turns out.
