You can check it out by going to your state's website (ex: wisconsin.gov). There is usually a search option on that page, and enter a search string that will give you more info, like "collection agency license" (but without the quotes). It took me a while to find the pages on a few different state websites, but eventually you'll find it. It's usually somewhere in the banking regulation area, or Department of Financial Institutions. Hope this helps, -M.
you can also goto your states Secretary of State office. At least in California, all corporations are registered with them.
Each State has it's own laws for regulating ca's. Check your State on this site, then go to the appropriate State site- i.e. if licensing is required, google --"State Name Collection Agency Licenses" http://www.edebtnetwork.com/content/collection_laws.asp
Do you know how accurate this site is? It is showing conflicting information on SOL for my state CO. Everywhere else I have looked shows 6 years across the board....
Try this one; http://www.fidelityinfocorp.com/state_list.html I prefer to use "enemy" sites, I find them the most accurate
