I have a charged off account with Spiegel. I wrote to them offering to pay in exchange for deletion. They immediately turned the account over to a collection agency. I sent the validation and estoppel letters to the agency and they have not put anything on my credit report. I would really like to get this off my reports. Does the collection agency have the authority to remove a notation placed by the original creditor?

I have a chargeoff with them, too. They show me as having a zero balance, though, so I've left it alone. They havent tried to collect since 1999, so... let sleeping dogs lie, that sort of thing.

Does the CA list this account as disputed?
IF the account does not show as disputed on your credit report, this is a violation of the FCRA.

If the CA has not responded within the 30 days that you allowed and are still reporting this as a collection account on your credit report, this is also a FCRA violation.

This board has many letters that you can send the CA to show them you are serious about your credit that you can send them.

Also let us know the name of the CA, people here may have already dealt with them and can offer invaluable advise.
