My daughter moved out of an apartment and was told everything was alright...yada,yada,yada. Now 5 monthys later they want to charge $1100 for new carpet (I'm sure that they didn't put new carpet in) and the collection agency applied a $600 COLLECTION FEE to the total.. They must be smokin crack. A little knowlege, from the board can make you feel like David vs Goliath. Any info in how to handle apartment complex problems? Charlie
First some ?'s..... Does she have a copy of her lease? What state is she in? They cannot charge to replace carpet unless there was severe damage to it (cigarrette burn marks, bleach, ect.) Did any of this happen? How old was the carpet? (apartmnts usually keep records of this) How long did she live there? Does she have pictures/video of carpet? How long ago did she move out? She needs to send validation to CA, and contact original owner/ or complex to try and resolve!
