    Hi
It sounds like your just starting out :)
I want to suggest you take some time and study the library here in credit net.
    http://consumers.creditnet.com/li/
It has a lot of info. If you already have your reports thats a great start. Learn about the validation process and read the fdcpa and fcra.
Here a link to find out your statue of limitations for a debt
    http://www.cardreport.com/laws/statute-of-limitations.html
If the sol for your state and type of debt has not passed the CA can still sue you to get the money so you need to make sure you are prepared if the debts aren't that old.
Some people try to get collections off their reports by disputing the debt with the CRA that can be done online. Some people start with trying to validate the debt with the CA which is where I started. It all depends on how you feel comfortable just make sure you know what you are doing. (there are plenty of people here to help you along the way too.)Unfortunately progess is slow either way..'
There are tons of sample validation letters on the web to make your own...
    Best of luck
    Jamie
