    Hi,

This is my first post here. Just want to say what a great board this is.

My question: I recently paid a collection and received a letter stating that it would be deleted. I am wondering if I send a copy to the CRA's, will it be deleted faster? Also, if I do send, will it just validate the item because I paid it, and they won't delete? Should I just wait and see if it falls off in a couple months? Thanks for any suggestions.

Don't dispute it as paid. It then confirms that it is yours and it will remain on your credit report. Most collection agencies don't delete the listing they just update it as paid.

If they promised to pay it though, and you have that promise in writing, then you have a contract, I would think. Seems like you could make them follow through--by suing, if necessary. But don't send anything to the credit bureaus, it is none of their business--at least not yet.

    Hi Bfit,

As you can see this can be a little tricky.

If you post your letter here so we can read it, it would help.

    :)

Thanks. I'll post the test of the letter on Monday, it's at work.

Here is the text of the two letters I received from the CA.

    1. Our office is in receipt of letter dated 02/17/04 in which you authorized our company to charge your credit card to pay in full the aforementioned account.
As stated, our office will delete this item from your personal credit profile, as you requested.

    2. To Whom It May Concern,

The above referenced claim has been paid in full.

We are under instructions from our client (the original creditor), to remove our tradeline from the credit profile of the above party.

    M. Leonard and Assoc. is not responsible for the credit bureaus' response times in reflecting this update.

Seems to me a "not mine" dispute could speed things up a bit ... attack the TL from the other end as well as what the CA has agreed to do. If the CA verifies, you can then make them scramble because they didn't do what they were supposed to do!
