Can a collection agency rightfully put an inquiry on your credit report? Is there a way to have it removed?
Yes, a collection company can put an inquiry on your report. They will pull a report to see what your credit looks like and helps determine the possibility/percentage of you repaying some or all of the debt. I believe they stay on for two years, like authorized inquiries do. But I could be wrong - anyone else out there know for sure?
They also pull your credit for skip-tracing (locate) purposes. They call all the listed creditors and exchange customer contact information. Don't think that writing to advise companies not to distribute information stops this, because it doesn't.
