This month a two year old collection inquiry was to drop off my Experian report. I just pulled a new report and found an inquiry from NORTHLAND GROUP INC for collection purposes. I do not have any outstanding debt, but as for clearing my report, I guess I'm not out of the woods yet.

If you have no outstanding debt to worry about, then dispute the injury as non-permissible purpose. The agency is obviously misreporting your SSN on someone else's collection account.

Dispute it as no PP ASAP and demand a check for $1000. Northland is one of the lowest of the bottom feeders.

Thanks. I don't have any outstanding debt. They have not put an account on my report...yet.

Any harm in disputing the inquiry prior to the validation process? Since they haven't contacted me yet, I don't want the inquiry to sit there for months before they do. I've no idea what they are trying to collect.

This is very likely. I am looking at a letter from Northland Group right now. It is addressed to my husband, but has an incorrect SSN listed.

    30ft,

Based on what you've said, its probably just a data entry error.

Remember, at this point you are only disputing an inquiry, not validating anything. You don't have any communication from them to suggest they are trying to collect anything. If/when they contact you about an alleged debt, you can then request validation.
