Out of nowhere, my old college put me in collections for $551 I don't remember owing, and has never shown up on my credit reports. I sent Aman Collection services a fax and reg mail (and Tues will send CRRR) letter telling them I need more info. I called ISAC, the only student loan I had, and they say it isn't them. I havent been at UIC since 1994. From what I understand SOL for Illinois is 7 yrs. If they do come up with what I ask for, should I remind them of SOL and tell them no since I was NEVER contacted all these years? I'm actually starting to wonder if someone used my SSN (your "chargecard" all around the University).

    Regards,

Wow, that is screwed. Even if the debt were legit, it being from at least 8 years ago, there is no way they could legally put it on your report anyway. Not without re-aging the debt, and that is a serious no no. I'd call them to find out what it was over, and then go seriously legal on them.

While you're working on this call ISAC back and tell them you need a letter that stipulates you owe them nothing.

By the time you get a response from the CA hopefully you'll have it.

Go ahead and send your letter CRRR and use the expression "demand for validation" in it. You don't want to just assume they (or a judge) will understand that you're disputing the debt when you're only asking for clarification.

If this shows up on your CR let us know immediately.

the letter you're about to mail.. search validation here and put that letter in yours.

You want a fdcpa formal validation request. do NOT just wing the letter.. make it a legit and that way if the CA does anything with the debt it violates the fdcpa (if they move without validating)...
