Hi - I just got my credit reports and all 3 show there is an old collection from a cable company from 6 yrs. ago for only $52. Although I don't believe this to be a relevant charge, am I better off just paying it to get it off my report rather than fighting it? If I pay a collectible account, should I expect my rating to increase? Significantly or only by a few points? This is the only collection I have on the report.

    Thanks in advance!

What did they do: Continue to charge you for a month after you moved and terminated service, or charge you for a cable box you returned?

That's the problem, I'm not really sure. I seem to remember something about being double charged for installation.

What are your FICO scores now?

647 on one and 735 on another, which is wierd. The collection shows on all.

At 6 years, it may be that the effect of the account is negligible, whether paid or not, and at 7 years it is off.

Is there any reason the 647 would be lower? Are there other negative entries, or is this account listed differently?
