Collection Reports? Where?

I was advised by a collection I had about 3 years ago, Columbia House, that they can not put a collection on file with the CRA's but there is a different report that they go on that is seperate and if lenders subscribe to this they can see the collections of non-credit based collections. Is this true and if so where can obtain a copy of the report? Also my wife and I are trying to buy a house and was wondering if there is such a report, do mortgage companies pull those reports? Thanks a million!

Sounds like BS to me. There may be a database of collections (I imagine there is) but not one that creditors check, because then they would fall under the FCRA. More likely a list used by marketing companies.

Can't say that I either agree with you or disagree with you.

It's just that we are seeing so many of these same kinds of comments over time here in the forum that it kinda makes one wonder if there actually mignt not be one or more of these "undercovers" reporting agencies out there.

Well, we can keep a lookout. I don't doubt for a minute that if there is one, it can be found, and somebody on this board will find it.

I read the collections sites and get their newletters routinely - no reference to anything like that so far. But there are references to marketing databases.

Thank you for the info! I will talk to a couple of people in the business and will post any results I find confirming the existence of such a "ghost" report. WOW it's almost like TABOO!
