This may seem like very basic questions, but I think they should be discussed here. There are a lot of new forum members such as myself that may not be "hip" to the ins and outs of validating/disputing collections. If a person has a collection account on their credit report, should they dispute it with the CA if the SOL has not passed yet for the state they live in? If a person has a PAID collection on their credit report, would it be easier to dispute these paid collections as apposed to unpaid collections? I wonder if after a collection is paid to the CA, they purge their files, making collection verification impossible. I am sure there is other basic information that consumers should take into consideration BEFORE going after CRA's and CA's. This would be a good place to educate us newbies. Mike

[/quote] I am pretty new to this also, but since some of the others are too busy, I will try to answer what I know. It is easier have a paid collection removed then one with a balance. CA's and Creditors are busy people, once you pay them, they loosen the strings a little and may not keep records quite as well. You can either dispute with the CA or with the CRA's or both. It depends how you personally want to play the game. I have learned, as most have, that using the search tool at the bottom will usually give you the answers you need. Some topics that seem important to you may have been discussed two days ago, hence the reason you may not get the answer or help you are looking for. Hope this helps
