I am going for a fha mortgage. I had a cingular bill that went into collections for $1800. I had a agreement with them(collection agency Allied interstate) to pay with a postdated check and they wouldn't report it. Two days later its on my report. So now they say for $1000 they will settle it but not report it as paid in full. Will it have a big difference on my score if i paid it in full. What would you do. I am new to all this. I helped out a friend and got him a line and he ran up a $1000 bill. Never again......

On your post dated check how long in the future was it post dated if it's longer than 5 days it's a violation of either the fcsa or fdcpa in fact they can't ask for a post dated check, now it's time for your *friend*to pony up the money file in small claims court.A little harsh your trying to buy a house he could cost you your house for many years.

Would it be better to settle or pay in full in terms of my score?
