How do you go about finding out if a collector is licensed to collect in your state? This debt is way past 7 years...I have them for that but I am wondering if they are even able to collect in Florida...
    Thanks

Go to www.lawdog.com and click on "state laws". You'll find a list of states. Select the one you're interested in and one of the options you'll see will be debt collection and collection agencies.

Usually you have to check with your secretary of state.

If they are not licensed here in Florida, the judges love it and that is much stronger than the SOL being up. Get hard proof to take with you. They will say they are. I proved Unifund was not licensed and won my case because of that, not because the SOL was up.
On a side note, also, to be sure, take all infor showing the SOL is up. Four years here if credit card. They will argue no matter what that they can still collect.
