I took a new job about a year ago, and was scared to apply for the amex company card. What an awful feeling. I was wondering if anyone knew what the chances are of me getting one now. The company is huge, I love my job, but I am worried because in the agreement, it says if i am denied or if they place a limit on my card they will contact my boss etc. etc.

Since my cleanup efforts, I have gotten many derog's deleted. I do still have an unpaid collection(NCO, has not replied to validation request, its been 30 days now). I have disputed w/ the CRA's and they verify it everytime, even after request for validation. They have not notified the CRA's of my dispute either, man i hate them. Will be sending out estoppel tomorrow, requesting immediate deletion. Anyone have any info on the company card issue? My scores are still in mid to upper 500's now.

i would not apply for an amex with scores in the 500's.
I think you need to be around 670 for that.
    others should comment though.

The only thing i was wondering about, is that being a corporate card, my company is a co-signer for the card. I think it is not strictly based on my credit...although they will take it into consideration.

My problem is i am having a hard time expensing stuff on my personal cards, because they are hovering near the limits. It is becoming very stressful. My job is awesome, pays great, and the balances of my personal cards will be paid off when my bonus comes in a couple months....but i need some credit for my expenses, which could add up to over a grand a month.

I went through the same thing at my work. They required me to get an AMex through the company, but luckily I was open with my boss and told him my credit was bad and that I was "fixing" it. He said it wouldnt matter. Sure enough I was declined for the card and my boss wanted to make a big deal out of it (I did not) because he thought that since the company was co-signing it shouldnt be a problem. Just when I was about to get embarrassed, our comany switched to corporate visas, and they dont even look at the employees credit.

I guess my only point was that yes, AMEX does check your credit and a score of 580 is not high enough even with a multi-billion dollar co-signer.

I have had the same experience with a Corp AMEX. I am/was under the impression that your score *may not* be the only factor/reason. I was denied because of a previous charge off on a green AMEX and an Optima card. As a matter of fact, I still can't get a personal AMEX even though the charge off's are paid.

I guess they use the same qualifying criteria as if you were applying for a personal card - no derogs, no previous *bad* experience, etc...

    jus my $0.02 :)

    Gracie,
I have a company card as well.
The Governbment Visa travel card and at the time I applied for it my scores were in the upper 400s. I don't know if they reveiwed my scores but I have that card and have had it for almost 5 years now.

Can you ask what they look for an also can you wait on getting the card until you get better scores?

I work for a state agency and was also worried about whether I would be approved for AMEX. This was before I started "fixing" my credit. I don't think that they even checked my credit, maybe b/c I work for state government and that was enough for them!

    Just my thoughts,
    A

Thanks for all the replies...I guess I won't apply for it until I get the last few derog's off my reports.

my corp cards have been citibank and chase mastercards.
chase didnt check my credit, i have a 10k limit corp card currently. (too bad it doesnt report)
citibank did check my credit, but not to deny..to determine my credit limit. even though it has nothing to do with my credit and is my companies responsibility in their eyes, they gave me some real low credit limit that made it about worthless.
