Ok, DH was surfin the web and caught a "bug"
called js.exception.exploit. I can't find any directions for removing it manually. I've tried Norton, Mcafee & Pc-cillin --- no good instructions. I did everything they said to do & it still doesn't work. Including deleting the bad files.

What it did was add 3 adult website folders to my favorites in IE 5.0. I am running W98.

Anyone have ANY idea how to remove this. I am NOT feeling like formatting my hard drive. I am thinking perhaps there is someplace in my registry to go in & remove info. But I don't know which folder.

    thanks,
I will be eternally grateful if you can help

have you tried right clicking and deleting it? Works for me when that happens and least getting it out of the favorites, anywhere else I don't know.

I'm not too familiar with Win98, but you're gonna go to registry level you'd want to find HKEY LOCAL MACHINE and go down to your user name (or default user if you don't have that on Win98... you can try to do a FIND for TEMPORARY INTERNET FOLDERS or INTERNET EXPLORER then look in the FAVORITES.

That's as much as I could help; I haven't heard of this bug...

go to Start -> Programs ->MS-DOS Prompt. Then change directory to where that file is located. Say the file is in your c drive under the subfolder2, type the following at the prompt & press the enter key:

    C:\> cd\subfolder1\subfolder2
    C:\subfolder1\subfolder2> attrib -r -h *.*
    C:\subfolder1\subfolder2> del filename
C:\subfolder1\subfolder2> dir filename to make sure it's gone

PS to get rid of a folder and all its contents:

    C:\subfolder1\subfolder2> rd /s foldername

Type "y" when it asks are you sure.

I have NT & Windows ME computers, but I think your favorites folder is in c:\win98\favorites.

Do you know where the files are located? If so, try deleting them this way - click on start button, then "shut down", then "restart in DOS mode." Delete the files while in DOS mode. If the files are in use by windows while you're trying to delete, it won't work, but in DOS mode it will.

Also, if I understand what you've got, you need to type "critical update" into your IE address bar while online, and get all the windows and IE updates.

While you're there, let MS install the automatic update feature, Then when there is a security update, it will just take over your computer and take you to the microsoft site and install itself, hehe. Aggravating, but not as aggravating as what you're going through now.

    Well,
I went ahead and wiped out my c: drive and started over : )

However, we are definitely taking some steps to ensure this DOES NOT happen again! Definitely disabling scripting. : )

thanks everyone for your help, and be careful out there!
