I've got an old Sears account I am currently about to settle with Portfolio Recovery. I have offered just over half of the balance, if they consider it paid in full & will sign a confidentiality clause stating they will not discuss the terms of the settlement with the CRA's or anyone else. The logic being, if the CRA tries to verify - then Portfolio would have to state "Consumer permission required" and it would be deleted.

Anyone had any success with this method, or should I also put "PAID in FULL" on the check - just to hedge my bet? I live in NJ - and accord & satisfaction is enforced here.

    Thanks in advance....
