I have been trying for almost a year to get basic credit education taught to Virginia's high school students. My local representative bascially blew me off stating that the counties school boards felt that our high school seniors already had enough to learn. The state's Secretary of Education sent me a copy of the material that was supposed to be taught in VA's classes on the subject. Interest rates, how to apply for a loan, the CRAs, wills/probates, etc. Too bad this was never taught, but it looks really good on paper though. I am now at a standstill. Who do I contact my county's local school board, the county's high school principals, math teachers? I cannot believe the state does not realize how important this is. It's okay to fill our kids heads with trig (which they will never use once they graduate college, unless they become an engineer or work for NASA), but it's too much to teach our children basic banking? Am I missing something? Any ideas would be appreicated.

PS Currently I'm dogging my poor representative into giving Virginians free credit reports from every bureau once a year. The man hates me. :)
