    Hi,
I have some questions about credit/liablity/cosigner useage

Basically my 20 year old cousin let her boy friend talk her into opening a kay jewelers account and put him on as a cosigner so he could use the account. Well they broke up and and now, 3 months later, he put 900 in charges on the account. Now, the way I understand it, she opened the account, willingly added him and so, since she's the primary, she is responsible for the balance and if she doens't follow through, he is responsible then, but more or less, because she added him, she gave him rights to use the account - right??
She didn't authorize the charges, but I'm not sure if that matters if she added him to the account from the get go.

    Thanks!

    Jessica

He's an authorized user on the account from what it sounds, and he can use the card just as she can, she may be able to dispute the charges, but likely will do no good if he is still on the account. She can have him removed from the account but the charges are both parties responsibility. Usually, the primary card holder will be the only party that would be sued for the balance.

    1) If he was an authorized user, he would be able to charge to the account, but would not be responsible. She could remove him from the account but would still be responsible for any current charges.

    2) If it was a joint account, he would be able to charge to the account, and they could both be held responsible.

    3) If he was a co-signer, he would not be able to charge to the account, but he could be held responsible if she failed to pay.

It sounds like it was either (1) or (2).
