It really depends one each persons case, and how long their SOL is to begin with (like 4 years is just a little time compared to 7 years reporting to wait).

If they are already 3 years through; what is 1 more year, especially if they don't have the money to be going any where to at that time.

    Prime example:

My DH has health problems back some years ago, one trip to the hospital cost $14,000 with no insurance. The poor man is accident prone and since then has had two major set backs with more financial problems. The 1st one lost us, I don't know how, but they did. Anyway it was a hospital not near us, but the ones in our town had us for sure, and we had to immediately deal with them.

The plan at the time, was to go back and eventually pay the 1st one, but the ones immediate where more important to keep paying.

Then more got added on top of that... and we where playing a different game of paying the hospital $250 per month for 3 years just to keep it from going to collections.

We did not have the financial means to pay the 1st one with this new problem (besides we never heard back from them on the matter) so we left it go further.

There is no way, I would of been able to pay that big loan, or handle the new ones coming in. It was not worth the risk with that amount hanging out there to wake up this collection agency.

I don't see it as suffering, my good credit came into play during them years. This give us the room to rebuild at the same time, and eventually had good already established tradelines switched over to his report once we were in the clear of the SOL.

Strategy, is the key. Some times you just have to wait for the best results. What don't work one way, can be made to work another way. Just want to point that out, there are always options available.
