Hi, This is my first post and also the first step in improving my credit report. I have read many messages on this forum, but can't seem to be able to find an answer to my question. I have open a J-Crew credit card almost 10 years ago and has came off my credit report 2 years ago. All of a sudden, the account is showing up in my credit report and shows an ACCOUNT OPEN date of 7/30/02. What do i do? Can i sent a VALIDATION letter to the CRAs? Or sent a VERIFLY letter? I'm so confused about these re-aging accounts. Step me through this... Thank You! Eric
Did the account have any derogs ie late payments, charge offs? Who is reporting the 'new' account now, a CA or J-Crew?
Thanks Queen_Bee for your reply... The account is being reported in Equifax and Experian as reported as being "Collection - Creditor cannot locate individual". Are they allow to do this? The account is being reported by "ASSET ACCEPTANCE CORP"....looks like a CA. Should i work withe the CRA first or go after the CA. Eric EQU 550 EXP 591 TU 450
VERIFLY LOL ) Send a verification request or commonly called a DISPUTE letter to the CRA. You can also do this online. Also send a VALIDATION letter to ASSET ACCEPTANCE at the address listed on your credit report. You can find copies of these letters in the Sample Forum. Obviously they can NOT show you proof the account was opened in July 2002. You will either get this deleted or instantly build up violations of the FDCPA and FCRA to the tune of $1000 per. If they refuse to delete the listing in 30 days, I would then apply for credit for a credit card that definitely will pull the report that has this information. Try for a difficult card like Amex Blue or something that will either yield you a great card, or better yet, a rejection. This will build up your case in court for these egregious violations. -Peace, Dave
Eric, Welcome to the board. What do YOU think the date of last activity is? When was the last time you made a payment?
Hi folks, Thanks for welcoming me on this board, you folks are fanatastic! This account was so old i can't even recall when i opened it. I blieve it was my first year in college and unfortunately i had a serious lack of understanding what responsibility is. I used this account once and can't even recall how much i used. The report shows that i owe $540 dollars, but i don't ever recall it being that much. The last day of activity must be more then 8 years ago. I will verifly it online and then write up a validation letter tonight and have it sent out first thing tommorrow. So, if the CRA verifly and comes back as is, then what is my next step? Should I try to open a credit card, i have other blemishes on my credit report that could be the cause of the decline of the credit card. Should i still sue? Thanks!
Erich, worry about that after the results come back. There is no sense in worrying about which direction to take before you get those results. Lawsuits, Estoppel letters, C&D letters, Procedural request letters, Good Will letters....are just some of the avenues that are at your disposal for the next step(s). We all know how frustrating the wait can be...but really the 30-45 days goes by quicker than you think it will now. Also it seems this is not the only item on your report...you can always work on the other things and the other reports during the wait. Good luck -Peace, Dave
