I challenged an item on my credit report. The cra came back and said that they verified it last december and that at that time, the cc company stated that they sold the debt. End of story.
Let's try to guess the CRA... Does it begin with an E, and tell you to send your dispute to a state beginning with T? If so, they always do that, that is why you have to be careful when disputing with that CRA, because it may be the only chance you get. What are you thinking will happen if you are allowed to dispute it? Are you thinking that it will be deleted? Chances are it won't be. More than likely the only thing that would happen is the BALANCE would get updated to ZERO. Just because they sold the account doesn't mean that you did not have an account with them, it just means that they are no longer owed any $ on that account because the company which purchased it paid it, and now they can come after you for the $ that they are out from paying for the account. You need to find a copy of their response from December, compare it to how it is being reported currently, and find some inconsistancy in how it is being reported now, that wasn't how it was verified (balance increasing won't work, since balance can still increase depending on the agreement.) Then you have to demand a re-investigation based on the innacuracy between how it was verified then, and how it is being reported currently. This is the only way that I have been able to get an account re-investigated with them.
