CRA won't investigate? Try this...

I just wanted to let everyone know that if you have received multiple denials on written re-investigation requests, you should log-on to the CRAs web site and do it electronically. I have used this method to get both EQ and TU to re-investigate old disputes after repeated "frivoulous" and "previously investigated" denials. I'm sure it will work with EX as well. The one downside is that you are forced to limit your reason of dispute to one from a limited list supplied by the CRA.

Also make sure that you print out both your dispute (as you enter it into your computer) and the confirmation. The CRAs intentionally mask the details of your dispute in their confirmations so that you can't come after them later on for FCRA violations. If you are having a difficult time getting the page to print (again, this is done intentionally), simultaneously hit "CNTRL" and "P" on your keyboard and it should spool the page to your printer.

Other advice - remove as many of your old addresses from your credit report as possible before you initiate a dispute or a re-dispute. In order to verify account information, a creditor must be able to supply at least two of the three following: name, address and ss#. You would be surprised at how many creditors have inaccurate or dated info on file or even no ss#. Once you remove an old address, you greatly increase the odds that the account in question will no longer be verifiable.

Lastly, be very specific in your disputes. Instead of claiming "never late", claim "I was never 60 days late three times". Believe it or not, many creditors have internal policies that will not disclose specific account information while answering a dispute request from a CRA (or any other entity) without an "Authorization to Release Credit" form signed by you. For example, if the creditor's records indicate that you were 60 days late only two times (instead of three per your dispute), they would be forced to confirm that the information is inaccurate, but would not be permitted to divulge the specific information that you were actually late two times. In this example, nothing would be confirmed and all the lates would be deleted.

If anyone has any additional advice or suggestions, please pipe in...

Actually, with EX if you have disputed it online, they won't let you dispute it again online. Just yesterday, I typed in an old report number on DH, and there were the very old investigations under this report still showing.

This is great stuff, I tell you...

Since it's already at the top, I can't bump it any further, but it needs to be bumped for a few days so everyone can see it...

Thanks for such an informative post..

Doesn't work for me. Last three times i did it on-line and all three were marked frivolous. they are charge-offs, so all you can really say is not mine.

For me after 2 online disputes with EQ they shut me down.

    Good ideas though.
