I actually have 2 cap one cards. The one i've had for 7 years was a sub-prime and now unsecured with a $4500 limit and 14.5% APR. I called them today to ask for an increase and to see if they can lower to APR. They told me I've 'maxed out" the limit available this card offers and the APR is the lowest I can get as well. They gave $10 off my ann fee, though. Bastards.

The other is a Cap One Kmart Mastercard. Started at $200 then one day it went up to $2500.
Had this one for 4 yrs, never got another offer again. Heard some folks got upgraded to platinum, why not me????

They wouldn't convert me to Plat on either acct, said I have to 'apply'. Rather not risk the hards if I cannot be assured I will get the Plat. Just want the low Fixed APR. Historically they give low CL, I would not even be able to come up with 5k BT, I don't have that much debt....

Never been late on either. THey allow 3 cards. Do you think they will give me the platinum no-hassle with a combined 660 FICO? Never spoke to Mr. Cooke, heard he used to pull miracles....

As far as Cap 1 is concern once a sub-prime always a sub-prime.

I hit limit on my card.

Give Cooke a try, you have all the gain and nothing to loose. Just be sure he does not pull a hard inq without your permission.

If you have a clean CR I would go else where as I think Cap 1 is more intrested in lending to sub-prime as oppose to prime customers. Just more profits.

    Best regards,

Hmmm...I've got 12.9 on my Cap 1 gold card, so there is definitely a lower rate available. I also called recently about the annual fee and they chopped it in half...from $59 to $29.50.

How long was it before your Kmart card got the nice jump?

I guess the jury is still out on whether you have to apply for "Platinum Status" or it can be given to you once you reach $5k in available CLs. Multiple people including myself were told that "we could" once we had $5k. Others, like you have reported that you have to apply. I'm going to combine my cards to get the $5K limit next month and I guess I'll find out then.

I applied for the No Hassle card with scores in the 680s-690s and got declined. I guess you have to have really good credit to get it. I probably wouldnt apply with a 660 score.

And last but not least, I'm unsure if Mr Cooke is still doing the PFB thing. I haven't seen a post on him in the last couple weeks, but I got my PFB response 3 days ago and it was from someone named Amanda May. I had not been given a CLI in 2+ years and she gave me a $1200 bump. Definitely give PFB a shot!!! You've got nothing to lose. I also got that bump WITHOUT hards being pulled. I requested no hard inquiries in my PFB letter.

A lot of people say they have been told that they have hit the limit, but what is the limit? The previous poster stated $4500. I think I remember seeing $6500 or $6600(non-plat) in another post a few weeks back. I wonder if the limit is $5K and the only way to get higher than that is to combine 2 cards that have CLs greater than that amount?

Oh yeah...you should just go ahead and combine your cards. Easiest way for a CLI! You've had your cards long enough to combine them.

You are surprised that a $1,200 card is plat.

    I was 'pre-approved' on denial for a K-Mart card by Cap1, and guess what, its a $200 PLATINUM card. ($100 regular/$200 K-Mart)

The card, and the flyers all say that its a plat card, and touted all of the plat features.

Nothing like having a built-in 50% utilization rate or less, since I rarely shop @ K-Mart.

I applied only before flipping it over and seeing the Copyright Capital One on the flyer... And they took 2 HARDS TU & EX for it.

    THE NAME PLATINUM MEANS NOTHING

    In the OLDEN DAYS...you got "CLASSIC" UP-TO $4,999 CL...GOLD $5,000 MIN CL

    $200 PLATINUM IS A JOKE!!!!

    1, 2 or 3 HARDS PER ACCOUNT...

    1 VERY RARE
    2 RARE
    3 NORMAL

Used to mean something before Cap. 1 joined, but others have followed. Even the Citi plat select can be as low as 500 (not even a student card). Citi only gave me 4K initially
