Do credit reporting agencies stop reporting old charged off accounts when the 7 year reporting timespan approaches, or do you have to challenge to remove these accounts from your credit report?
It's like clockwork drops off itself and actually it's before the official 7 years, it's 6 years 9months!!! I've had some things fall off last year and this year. Apr of 02 came off this month......
Does anyone know why Experian seems to drop things off before Trans Union and Equifax? I have a tradeline on all 3 that the date of last activity was 6/95 that Experian dropped in 12/01 and the other two have it on the report still. Why would they not come off at the same time on all 3 reports?
That's good to hear! I have 13 months for most of my charge offs ( 10 months for the 6 yr & 9 mo timespan). I think my car will last that long. I'm not going to make any inquires for 10 months.
Backspace, Are you saying that negative info drops out of credit files around 6 years & 9 mos. for everyone because if this is correct I can start shopping for a desperately needed car right now. I had a repo that is supposed to drop from Equifax in April. They are the only CRA reporting this still. EBra30291
Not everyones drops off like clockwork!! Consider yourself lucky if it did and early to boot. Alot of times is it our job to tell them it's time to come off, of course we shouldn't have to.
Good News! The info that backspace gave seems to be correct. That repo that I mentioned earlier in this thread has dropped off of EQ at 6yrs & 9mos. I received the results of some disputed info ( I did not dispute the repo, I was saving it for next round ) and it is no where on the report. This board is GREAT! EBra30291
I know once inquiries are older than 12 months, they don't affect your scores much, however, does anyone know why Experian decides to hold hard inq's for up to 26 months?
Yes!!! Trust me it's 6Yrs 9 mo's... The debt i talked about earlier was for Equi, Today i checked my Experian and it's off also, and it's not on my TU... as aforementioned the bureaus will delete at that time, someone earlier stated not for everyone, because if it's still on your file it's up to you to call them and have it removed. Yep you're right, but that's rare. Everyone I know and closely monitor things that are about to fall off agree 6yrs 9 mo's. Mindcrime2, you have to call the bureau and ask them to remove the inq's, they will
I'm still trying to find out what date CRA's use before they drop charged off accounts from your CR. Is it 6 yrs and 9 months from "last activity" date?
STRATEGY When a derog gets about 6.5 yrs old you might try disputing it as the "wrong date of last activity". "According to my records the DLA was 1/1/96 NOT 6/1/96. Please investigate and make the correction". My guess is they will simply delete rather than go through all that.
I see your logic, but I'd rather not "stir the pot" at this stage. I'll just be patient for a few more months.
