A crazy new law allowing debt collectors to harrass employers is now before the Colorado legislature. Here is the full story from the Denver Post. http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%7E417%7E1250931,00.html
Holy crap! Are these people nuts! Seriously, the first thought that comes to mind is new empoyees will have to consent to a credit check as a condition of employment. Who would hire someone with a bunch of collection accounts knowing bill collectors would start contacting supervisors and managers?
What is this world coming to? I heard on NPR, the airports are going to start doing credit checks before you are allowed to board a plane. If your score is too low, you will either be harrassed anc checked each leg of your journey or not permitted to fly.
No , you just bought a one way ticked to the whosgow. Bet you thiught it was a plane ticket didn't you?
hoosgow 1. a kind of prison; a building for the confinement of persons held in lawful custody, especially for minor offenses or with reference to some future judicial proceeding.
I have no idea, but I will learn to drive and see America from a Minivan. If I can't drive there, then I don't need to be there. It is amazing to see the history channel and how convenient air travel was supposed to be, just like using a bus. But it has all changed.
Well, The FDCPA still will exist so the first time they call you, fedex a Cease and desist to them. Moreover, isn't there a provision in the FDCPA banning such activity by collectors ? This law will get struck down somewhere.
Collect a clue, legislators Crazy new Colorado law Tuesday, March 18, 2003 - Several times during this legislative session, we've wondered what they've been smoking up at the corner of Lincoln and Colfax. How else to explain a proposal to allow bill collectors to pester a debtor's employer? ===================== This violates the Federal FDCPA as it is less restrictive than federal law! The END ************************* LB 59
[Moreover, isn't there a provision in the FDCPA banning such activity by collectors ? edoggie Exactly and that's not all. Another clause is state law cannot require less than federal standards do. In other words a state can not take steps or actions to weaken federal laws QUOTE]Originally posted by edoggie Well, The FDCPA still will exist so the first time they call you, fedex a Cease and desist to them. Re: Re: Crazy new Colorado law??? Any "bill collector" call me...THEY GONNA' BE TOLD WHERE TO GO!!! We have a POLICY---->EMPLOYEE~~EMPLOYER CONFIDENTIALITY!!!
Yes, that definition is correct. It is also spelled hoosegow However the word came from a mispronounciation of the spanish word "jusgado" which means "hanging judge" in other words, a judge known for his harsh punishments which in the days of old El Paso where the term originated usually meant just exactly that. The cowboys of that time thrown in jail with the Mexicans heard them using that word frequently and incorrectly associated it with the jail itself.
