Hi...another newbie question here Before I plan my "strategy", I'm "reading my a** off" as suggested...and I was reading earlier that when I request all my reports, CAs and others may be awakened...Is that true that they're able to see that I got copies of my own reports? and if so, how is it that my own private access can be seen by them???
I don't know how to link to other threads but there was some discussion about this in a thread that can be found using the key words "sleeping giant." This may be the thread that you're referring to anyway. I don't know if there was a real conclusion though re whether accessing your own rpts does indeed prompt collector notification.
Thanks Mandy...I'll look around...I would think it's a simple question for some veteran - to me it sounds unlikely that the CAs would know of such activity, but I want to be sure before I start in.
One way I'm thinking it could happen is if the CRA has a different address listed as current then the one you use when you request your report. This may well get flagged by skip-tracer checks and have a CA notified as a result. I do think that applying for any credit will get your updated info to CA's though.
Yes, if you start getting credit reports, disputing, applying for credit, etc, and if there is anyone looking for you, they will find out. Equifax and Trans Union both advertise these services for collection agencies and creditors. So as so as you give them updated information, or they know you are doing something with credit, here they come. It is better to know and be prepared.
Go look on the Equifax and TU main websites, look through the "products" sections and see what they offer. You'll be surprised. and after a while (I've been helping people for years) it becomes obvious that CA's are being notified of credit activity.
It seems like appying for credit will definitely trigger a skip trace IF the CA uses one. I thought that there was some debate on whether accessing your own rpt would notify your creditors. I actually participated in the discussion. I have always maintained that there was a very real possiblity of this happening. And Breeze if I am reading you correctly, you seem to agree. And those websites are excellent sources of information.
