I'm wondering when you get those pre-approved applications for credit in the mail and in the letter it has a reference number or acceptance "code" that you need to type in via 'online' if that is just a scam to get you to think you've actually got Approved because, I mean, you do have an acceptance code and all. ??? Or have they already done a check of your credit and applied a code for approval. I got the Cap1 Plat pre-appr offer that told me to go online and type in my code along with the other info. Then after hitting enter I get the "you'll be notified by mail" B-S. Oh great I'm thinking. Another set of hards and no card coming. Next day in the mail is ANOTHER pre-approved Platinum offer from Cap1. I trashed it. I already have one Cap1 card and am hoping to get another.
THEY KNOW YOU GOT IT IN THE MAIL... No more "PRE-APPROVED" than any other "PRE-APPROVED" card...BUT you are closer to APPROVAL (bonus points)
Got a second Cap1 card 'Platinum' with a $300 CL. Ugh. Sent in my pre-approved and got this crappy limit. Hell, my other Cap1 card will be a year old next month and that card has a $2250 CL and its not even Platinum. Very discouraging. Don't think I'll apply for a long long time for anything else. I should be fine with the cards I have now: Orchard $300 CL Cap1 $2250 CL Plat Cap1 $300 Dillards $1000 Exxon/mobile $200 I'll wait until my BK gets older (2 years next month) and more of my inquires fall off. Lastly, I'll pay off all my cards through at least one billing cycle and then check my report for my scores. If they are decent, I'll try and enter the "prime" market and sock drawer these crappy low limit cards. I'd say in about two more years.
With a bk on file a prime cc is very diffcult if not impossible. Just combine the CL of your Cap 1 cards. Cap 1 is giving out crappy $300.00 on a Plt. card. Nothing new here. Once subprime with Cap 1 always subprime. My Cap 1 (green marble design) with a perfect payment history of 7 years next month has not seen a CLI in close to 2 years. The last time I inquired about one I got a $300.00 boost and 3 hard inqs. (courtesy of Mr. Cooke) to show for. Best regards, Mirage
once you have no derogs and hardly any inq's you'll be easy to get just about any card. i'm stuck with too many inq's but still high scores (686/781/740 tu/exp/efx). I suppose if i stop applying i'll see massive increases in scores in the next year. but binge app'ing is hard to give up.
Why are'nt you guys disputing the inquiries ? They are the easiest to remove...I most of them removed from all 3 of my CR's.
Amen to that Mirage. Took me 8 years post BK and a tear-jerker PFB to get in the door at Citibank. I'm still not welcome at MBNA, AMEX, and BankOne, but I'm only a couple years out. Citi is good enough for now though.
