Hi everyone! I have been reading these boards for quite awhile and I am amazed at all the expertise here. Here's my problem.. My husband only has one name. I know it sounds bizarre but he was named after a song and was never given a first name. We check his cr often because with only one name it seems there can be a lot of confusion. ANYHOW, when I pulled his cr last month, Equifax had given him a first name (my 9 yr old son's name) when I dug a little deeper I noticed that the Cleveland Clinic (where my 9 yr old had surgery) had tried to check hubby's credit (why is beyond me, we don't owe them any money at all....no collection accounts from them ect). They pulled his report 9 times over a 6 month period. Which was the last time I checked his cr. Well, it seems they were running it with my 9 yr olds 1st name which in turn Equifax has now added that to hubby's name. Now I contacted the Cleveland Clinic, 3 offices, tons of people and they can't even figure out why they would have pulled a credit report to begin with. No one there will help. I explained what happened and they said they don't even know who to refer me to! So, I copy hubby's ss card and dl, write a letter to Equifax explaining that they have now changed the file to 9 yr old son's and I haven't gotten a response. It's been almost a month, no changes to the name as of today...... Now where do I go from here. I know it's a pretty unusual situation with my husband's name being so unusual. HELP! Thanks. Laurie
Believe it or not, yours is not an uncommon occurrance... Especially with the CRA you are dealing with... They seem to believe that any and all information they receive is sacred, even after being shown otherwise; especially when that is contact information, etc. The FCRA 'gods' decided to not make any obsoletion guidelines on personal information submitted -- hoping that COMMON SENSE (which dealing with CRAs at times becomes a not-too-common sense), and this CRA takes that to a new level of absurdity by ignoring almost any request to change contact information. There are people who had their children become their spouses, spouses become their children, etc. (Every one sign along with "I'm My Own Grandpa") I've requested deletion of over a half dozen erroneous addresses; there is a comment on their dispute process page "There are additional things which require further investigation." DUH! HOW CAN YOU FURTHER INVESTIGATE INCORRECT ADDRESSES! Chances are the name dispute will also be relinquished to the further investigation required category. Unless you can come up with some way to get them to drop it earlier.
