outofdebt had an interesting post on 01.06.2003:

Citibank yes, Chase no, Discover no

This thread needs to be bumped anyway.

I have some info about the secured VISA offered by America Online Bank www.apbank.com . Someone posted about this card earlier, so I sent the bank a few e-mails and received the following info:

Their secured VISA is not reported as a secured card to the credit bureaus. The only people who know it is secured are you and the bank. The annual fee is $35.00. The minimum to open the savings account is $100. You can continue to add to the savings account, in increments of $100; there is no maximum. The secured card is converted to an unsecured card after about 18 months, and you keep the same account number. They pull one credit report from Equifax. They do not base their decision on any credit scores, but rather on your history with other creditors. They would deny you if you have currently delinquent accounts or back owing child support, student loans, judgments or tax liens against you. If you have made arrangements to pay any of these back, they take that into consideration when viewing the application. They also report to all three credit bureaus.

Their answers to my e-mails were extremely fast, if that's any indication of their level of customer service.

When I called them and asked them what they consider a current delinquent account they responded that if it's within 6 months it's current.

The rep said after 6 moths it's no problem. I was asking about charge offs. Not sure if judgements or child support will be a problem.

Very conflicting information on BofA and AMEX. One BofA CSR said no app is reviewed if a BK appears, yet someone here posted that they will consider after 6 years (with established credit after BK). So, who is right?.

And now I learn that AMEX flatly denies anyone with a BK no exceptions (recent policy change)

    Now I'm really confused.

Yup, AMEX will not approve anyone with a bk on file. Dogman did get one but his situation was reversed by a supervisor. From what I understand supervisors are not allowed to reverse the computer generated denials based on a bk.

Most if not all prime cc do not approve with a bk on file. The usual wait time is about 7 years and show good cause.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Quick question for you guys:

I'm getting ready to file BK (ch7), and it will be with Cap1 and Orchard in the filing. Will they reissue after BK since I've included them in the filing, or will I have to avoid them and try the others when I start to rebuild?

Nordstrom will require a very low balance to limit ratio also on previous BK. In addition the rep told me that they needed to see multiple accounts of re-established unsecured credit opened AFTER the bankruptcy. I still have credit cards that weren't included in the bankruptcy and all have 0 late pay histories for almost 10 years, this didn't count towards what she said would be re-established even though they are currently used.

I've heard alot of people have gotten a Capital One card right after Bankruptcy, but I went bankrupt on one of their cards. Any other ideas? I have a household bank account, crappy 300 limit. I'm 4 months post bankruptcy, mid 500s and working on it...

I still got a new capital one card even though they were in my bankruptcy. I think it was a year later though.

bump causes the topic to show up at the start of all the subjects in the main listings since most have the forums sorted by "latest post date". its just a trick to get your post "re-noticed" if no one has responded in awhile.

    Chapter 7 BK discharged 10/98
approved for a JC Penney cc LOC $1,000 (3/03),
    Exxon-Mobil gas card LOC $250 (2/03), and
Union 76 gas card no limit that does not report to CRAs (2/03)

Also approved by RNB-Target (3/03), but did not activate card as I figured I already had too many new accts and I already had a store charge card (JCP).

In the past, I was approved for 2 Cap One ccs, 1 DMB, and 1 PVN back in 2000, 2001, 2002.

Also recently approved for a 14K auto loan from Cap One Auto Finance (2/03).

However, was REJECTED by Shell/CITI, Sears, and PeopleFirst.com) due to BK-7

I got turned down by Union 76 for a collection account in 1997. They ran a TU so it's no big deal.
Funny that Target approved me and 76 didn't.
