I think I missed this board...

I posted these in the thread on that other board, but I guess I forgot to mention it here.

I am almost 6 years post chapter 13. Got a Circuit City Plus card with $3k limit. Got three Household owned cards: GMCard/$1k, GM Extended Family/$4k, Corvette/$3k. (All in late March.)

They both pulled Equifax and my Privacy Guard FACO was about 688. As talked about elsewhere, the three Household cards only resulted in one credit inquiry.

I also got a pre-approved Providian offer and was approved for $3k in early March. They pulled Experian and my PG FACO was only 662.

The nice thing about the Household cards is that they had 0% offers for at least six months, and you can transfer directly to your bank account.

Did you include CapOne in your BK? That could make a difference for someone of us who did.

So if this post is over why do we still get people out there going what kinda card can i get with a score of this. Or better yet what kinda card can I get after a bk...this post is long from being over I still refer back to it.

    Who said it was over?

I have used this list as my guide and only went wrong once. That was with the Target VISA, but I think it was just my low score coupled with the BK, not the BK alone. (I have since decided that I don't want the Target VISA anyway, no balance transfers, so I won't be trying again even with an improved score.)

    update on Citi, AMEX, and...Chase?

Well, I know I've shouldn't have done it, but I was really interested in finding out how they would deal with it...

I've fixed up my report real nice and pretty and decided to apply with the above 3 credit banks and see how they would deal with my Ch-7 BK at about 6 years.

Citi - rejection, c/s supervisor explained that they can't consider BKs until after 7 years. (on-line application, pulled EX in CA)

AMEX - ditto (applied for several of their cc products on-line, same result, only one EXP CR pulled)

Chase - I don't know yet if my application was approved or rejected... Chase pulled TU, and my BK doesn't show up on TU. So, we shall see what we shall see, my little chickadees...

After talking with c/s and supervisors, Citi and AMEX said they do consider applications with BKs at the 7 year mark, but it is no guarantee (just giving themselves an out if needed), and their story changes slightly from rep to rep, but I did get supervisors at AMEX and Citi to confirm this magical 7-year mark, so hopefully, it's not just all lip-service.

However, your CRs have to be really excellent, they warned, so I would advise any BKers out there not to apply until 7 years are up because they were really adamant about this point.

Something to shoot for, I guess... I only have about a year to go, but I wonder if anybody has actually made it to the promised land, or are these just stories that BKers tells their kids?

Anyhow, I did have to make numerous phone calls and speak with a number of c/s reps before I was able to obtain and be satisfied with this info.

(Surprisingly, it was a lot of hard work, so I wonder if what I was told is really company policy that is put into practice, like BofA who does approve accts for BKers, or are these just lies told to placate and give hope to the weary masses).

As my credit scores gradually improve, I badly want to go out and swim in the ocean, instead of just standing at the shoreline, trying to avoid the crashing waves...

Looks like a couple of waves clobbered me today, but I'm still here, waiting... and dodging...

    update on Citi, AMEX, and...Chase?

Chase is brutal.....I must have called them about 5 different times, each time a different rep. They will not admit that they take anyone with a BK period. Why not after 7 years I asked? Like a robot, all they could say is we have to consider it if it is on your reports. Whatever, applied just to see what would happen, and sure enough.............denied!

Not even a PFB would get them to budge. I just gave up on them. I'll never apply again.

Not to mention all DW's trouble with Chase. She is very afraid what will happen once her united mileage plus gets converted to Chase :(

Well, things have changed ALOT since this thread started and people naturally want up to date information like we are providing here.

I encourage those who have information to add to this thread to post it. It is a valuable reference point for those with a BK.

Re: Re: I think I missed this board...

    I filed BK7 in Oct 2002

    Discharged in Jan 2003

    March 2003 - 2 mos post BK
Household Bank MC - $300 limit now $600,

    June 2003 - 6 mos post BK
Capital One VI - $300 limit upped to $750 in Sept 03 and then to $2000 in Dec 03.

Nov 2003 - Raymour and Flanigan Furniture - approved for $1200 living room set. Interest free until Jan 05, only $300 left to pay.

I use the capital one card at about $500 per mo and pay off all but $50 or so each month.

Household card I spend +/- $100 mo and pay in full.

I am hoping for another increase from Cap 1 ... we will see.

Oh yeah and I got a cell phone through AT&T wireless in Sept 03 with no deposit required.

I had talked to one of the reps in the bk dep(1800-727-3690) at JC Penny & was told I could have applied 3 months after dischared. I did not file them in my bk but they have it listed in bk on ex only.
