    NanaC,

I wanted to say thank you for maintaining this thread, I have printed it, booked marked it, and read it about 50 times -- it is well-used and an incredible resource.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your uncle. Big hugs to you!

I received a JC Penny pre-selected offer a few weeks ago - I sat on it for a few weeks because it was not a pre-approved offer. Then I noticed a soft inquiry on my EX so I decided to send it in. I really expected a denial as it is Monogram Bank.

Couln't believe my surprise when I got an alert on EX about a new tradeline and it was JC Penney!!??

I hadn't even gotten the card or an approval letter yet (gee that was fast reporting!!)

Anyway I was approved for $500. My score was either 632 or 634 (can't remember). The only derog on my report is the 4 yr old BK itself. I had one inquiry at the time and very high utilization (22% avail).

    Just adding to the list

Just wanted to add to the list...

My BK7 was discharged in 5/94 (Almost off!)

I got the Home Depot card in August. Only $850 limit, not sure what APR is because I haven't used it.

Are you thinking of adding Spiegel to the list? I got a card with them in March, I pay it off every month, also $850 limit (What is up with the $850 limit???) and some astronomical APR. Still no increase, though.

My scores were low to mid 600s at the times of approval.

I am 16 mos. post-chptr 7 bankruptcy. I received an approval for Newport News for $1,500 which is through FCNB. The card can be used at Spiegel and Eddie Bauer. So I am assuming they are all through FCNB.

Yes, they are all the same company. It seems like an easy tradeline (and I had them in my BK, so I assume there is no blacklist but that might be why I have such a low amount)

    Hey NanaC,

Sorry I am so late on this thread. Right now, I have not applied for anything because scores are still in the mid 400's. I filed BK 13:

    EQ-filed 2/99, 08/99 dismissed FICO 446
    TU-filed 2/99, 08/99 dismissed FICO 418
    EX-filed 2/99, 08/99 discharged. FICO ???

Reading this post, I should not EVEN try to apply for anything until the BK are atleast 5-7 years old. I am disputing them during CHOD, so hopefully the dismissed will come off.

    I agree that a BK13 is worse than a BK7.

Great list of post BK CC, companies, and CU info...

    Thanks NanaC!!!

UNLV, you are most welcome! I made the mistake of waiting too long after my BK to get credit. I would look into a secured card as soon as possible. Just my thoughts...but even a small $200 is a rebuilding tool!

:) Best of luck to you!

    Hey Nana,

I've already had Cap 1, Providian, First USA, Household Bank, Sterling Bank & Trust, and United National Bank. Providian and First USA are paid charge offs. The others are unpaid charge offs that I am trying to rectify before the new year.

Is there any advice on getting a secured card for the new year to restablish credit?

Any advice is greatly appreciated ...

You can try American Pacific Bank.
    www.apbank.com

Here is the info from their site:

    Easy Guidelines
    $10,000 gross annual income
    U.S. resident
Must reside in the Continental U.S., including Alaska or Hawaii
18 years of age or older
    A phone in your home
Current accounts not seriously past due
Bankruptcy must be discharged. If your bankruptcy was filed in the past 12 months, send a copy of the discharge papers. A chapter 13 bankruptcy must be at least 6 months old

From what I remember, the apr was below 10% on the secured. Not sure if it still is.

    Thanks LKH,

You are ALWAYS a source of positive info ...

I will also try Secured CD loans as well.

I don't know what guidelines they are using b/c they offered me a card with $1500 limit may02 and chp7 was just discharged in sept02. My scores had to be pretty bad, like mid 500's. I do have a long credit history so maybe that had something to do with it.

What George posted is for the unsecured visa. The secured says this:

    Secured Credit Cards
Need to establish or rehabilitate your credit? Our secured Visa card gives you a credit limit equal to your security deposit, yet no one but you knows it's secured. Available to residents of all 50 states.
