    I recently attempted to get a credit card from MBNA...and was told that because I haven't had any credit extended me over the last 2 - 3 years... despite a credit rating over 700..I couldn't be offered a credit card!

    I have paid cash for anything I had to purchase! What can I do?
    Thanks!

    Get a secured card and use it for a year,make all payments on time. Then you will be able to get regular cards

    Try different banks. I got turned down by a bank that I had a secured card with and got approved at 4 other banks.

    A trick is to apply at a bank that will each use a different CRA that way they won't see you trying to aplly too much.

    Another approach is to take out a Passbook Loan from a local bank or Credit Union.
    This is a personal loan using the amount in a savings account you set up as collateral.
    Make sure the bank will report to the CRA's.
    Then take the loan, but don't spend the money, use it to make the monthly payments to pay back the loan.
    All it will cost you is a few dollars in interest but after 6 months, you will have a credit history showing on-time payments

    CRA = Credit Reporting Agency
