CAN YOU CONTACT A CEDIT CARD COMPANY AND AGREE TO PAY-OFF A SUBSTANTIALLY LESS AMOUNT THAN YOUR CURRENT BALANCE IN A LUMP SUM. AGREEING TO TERMINATE THE CARD AND NOT HAVE IT ADVERSELY EFFECT YOUR CREDIT. WILL THEY NEGOCIATE WITH YOU SO YOU CAN AVOID POSSIBLE BANKRUPTCY? IF THE ANSWER IS YES, THEN WHAT IS THE PROCEEDURE? THANKS

If you are current in your payments with them then it is doubtful that you will find a credit card company that will negotiate a settlement for less than the amount owed. They will probably offer you a hardship program where payments may be reduced for a period of time but only after you provide them with a real good idea of your income, expenses, other debts, etc.

Just out of curiousity, what's the name of the card issuer and what's your interest rate?
