I was wondering how the credit card companies, process disputes, lets say there is a charge of 500 dollars on my bill, that I DID NOT SIGN FOR, but was somehow authorized in my name (stolen CC #) for a service, no merchandise was ever exchanged, I disputed that with citibank, they gave me a "conditional credit" how will they investiagate the matter, and clear my name? ANy thoughts?

    RE: credit card dispute proces

When the credit card company receives a dispute like this they usually investigate the matter with the merchant that sold the product or service.

Then if this is determined to be a fraudulent charge 1 of 2 things happens, the merchant issues a refund back to your account, or your credit card company will do a "ChargeBack" on the fraudulent transaction, retreiving the funds from the merchant's bank account.

Either way, you will get your money back, this does not affect your credit in any way.

    Regards,
    Alex.
