Hello All, It's been awhile since I posted here, but I need some more advice. I have a credit card, which I believe was charged off in 1999. The debt is 2K. I had it removed from all three CRs. Today I received a collection notice from the Law offices of Bennett & Deloney. They are collecting on behalf of Covenant Management Group, LLC, who is attempting to collect on behalf of Citibank. What is that all about? Anyway, it talks about suing me, etc, but it's a pretty generic letter. I live in CA - can they really do anything? I am paranoid about this stuff going on my report. Should I even request proof of the debt? Or should I toss this and leave it alone? Chipper
Hi Chipper, Unless the laws have changed within the last year (and you'll have to check on that) the SOL in California is 4 years. They could try to sue you, but they would lose as soon as you argue past SOL. Good luck, NuB
It's always a good idea to validate the debt. Any proof you get of the DOLA, DOD, etc. will be able to help you in the future!
