Is there any credit counciling available that is ok? I am paying all my bills on time, but I am only able to pay the min. My debt is not going anywhere. Is there any options out there. Thanks for info
There is usually a big debate about credit counseling, but I will share my experience: Consumer Credit Counseling Service. They are funded by United Way. I had a decent experience with them. I paid $10 a month for the service, and was required to mail a cashier's check. Never once were my payments late to the creditors.
It will probably trash your reports while you are in the program. I never pulled my reports, as my credit worthiness wasn't an issue, it was more important to get my debts paid. The only lingering effect I had was 24+ 90 day lates being reported by one OC. This was not the fault of CCCS, but rather a nasty policy of this OC. I was finally able to dispute those away. The damage to reports is going to vary by whom you owe. Each creditor will have their own individual policy.
