OK - here is one that I haven't heard of before.... Last Tuesday I went to my credit union to get pre-approved for a new car loan. They use Equifax, but for some reason could not retrieve my file/score. On Wednesday they called Business Services at EQ. and were told that my file was too long to be handled automatically - that an individual would have to look at my file and manually separate it into two separate files. This was to take 3-4 days. I still don't have a score today. Has this happened to anyone else? How long can they hold hostage my ability to obtain credit? If I can't get a score out of them today, I'm going to have to accept a 9% from VW credit. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
most dub places can finance you through chase manhattan at a better rate too. They only pull TU. might talk to the finace manager. 9% is really high? Is that a first time buyers program?
Equifax handed me that exact same pile of crap -- that my file is too long to be scored, and that because it is so long it can't be obtained via their website. What a bunch of bullsh*t. In California, CRAs are required to disclose their scores to consumers. As far as I can tell, their position is legally untenable, and they need to be called on the carpet for it. Bastards!
So...do you know if it means that each and every time someone pulls Equifax for us that this will happen? Credit Union lady said that Equifax is supposedly dividing my file into two separate ones.... ...This is crazy....I have only about 6 credit cards, a mortgage, student loans, and maybe 10 inquiries - I can't believe that this is more than the average consumer. I faxed them a letter this morning outlining the damages I would suffer and seek to reclaim if they didn't have the file done by 3:00pm - but I doubt that it will do any good.
I don't know. I have been fighting this problem for quite some time now and am not sure how it will resolve. I am not too thrilled about having my file broken up into two separate files, as it sounds like a recipe for disaster. Well, okay, I wouldn't mind it if they took all of my inquiries and moved just them to a new file, but I doubt they'll do that for me! I want to get my file and score online, and am tired of this game. I can't believe that Equifax can't fix their software to fix this "bug". EVERYONE should be able to get their report and score delivered to them, not just those with files under a certain subjective size.
According to a Fair Isaac rep, they're just having problems with this. He said one of the biggest issues in not only file length but the promotional inquiries are making the files too long if you have a lot of them. I would talk with a manager and ask for a full removal of all promo inquiries and then see if the file will run. there's no way 2 different files will give you a good score... one may have wrong ratios, one may lose account history... what is the lender supposed to do? average the 2 lower scores to get a lower score than you would get in your file were smaller. propose the inquiry removal and see if that helps.
Marie, that's a good idea. Actually, I think one of the reasons my file is so large and is causing me this problem is the fact that I have a lot of inquiries, mostly consumer disclosure ones arising from the credit repair process. I think I'll call Equifax and see if I can't get them removed or transferred to a new file. Good idea! Thanks. -chriscraft
Same problem here. I posted this before. Experian does not have a score for me because my file is too long. The finance company for my business loan told me they had to go w/o my experian credit report (which is good) because it was too long to retrieve my information when they called experian. My equifax is already split into two. That was a disaster. Good luck. I gave up on all this and just started living my life.
Marie, yes I will ask them to move the promotional inquiries as well. Maybe they'll screw up and move my hard inquiries as well. I can always hope. Will let you know what comes of my efforts. Thanks for the advice. -chriscraft
DEMAND they remove ALL the inquires and see what happens...Maybe the "HARDS" will go to....I really don't think the LENGTH of a file could EVER be too long...that's like saying you can't FAX more than 2 pages...YOU CAN FAX 17 PAGES...or 172 pages!!!
