Okay, I've gone through presecreen with recruiter, received app, and have to send it back into the bank. Also scheduled to meet with regional managers for interview. If there is anything negative on my report, will they use that to weigh me as a candidate or just kick my a** to the curb?

Anyone have a clue? Anyone work with one of these institutions?

With Wells Fargo, the investigation is required AFTER you are hired and have started working. Because you have to be "bondable", it is IMPERATIVE that you are upfront with any type of felony or misdemeanor crimes you may have committed.

I don't know if CREDIT itself will be any type of disqualification of employment from a bank. (Although as a team member, you are not to overdraw your account without having overdraft protection in place so you can keep objectivity with your customers.) Don't know if any type of BK would prevent employment (I doubt it).

Remember that most institutions are Equal Opportunity Employers and CANNOT discriminate against you (unless you have a CRIMINAL record).

When I got my job at Barnett Bank (now Bank of America) here in 1992 I had filed bankrupty and it was just discharged. They pulled my credit but I was upfront and told them about the bankruptcy and they said it wouldn't matter. I was hired really quickly. I think if you explain your situation to the recruiter and make them aware you may be in better shape then if they pull your credit and are surprised!

That is AMAZING that you can tell HOW a person will perform on a job by a CREDIT REPORT...

BUT THEN the insurance companies "THINK" they can tell HOW YOU DRIVE BY A CREDIT REPORT!!!!

I know, it's stupid. Like I'm a debtor, don't pay my bills so I won't show up for work! DUH...you would think you would want a job to get those debts paid down and if you don't go to work then you don't get paid.

But then again I think what they feel is if you're irresponsible to your creditors then you'll be irresponsible to the job too.

Bad credit may not be too hard to explain. A bankruptcy can hurt, I've kept tabs on bankruptcy boards for the two years since I've filed. (since banking was my job prior to being a SAHM and would someday like to go back p/t).

Some people had their foot practically in the door and then they were never called back or they were sent a denial that stated it was due to adverse info from their credit report. (like a credit denial basically). They don't have to say it was the bk itself that took you out of the running, it's very hard to prove otherwise too. Just check out employment law boards.

I would think it would be best to get it out of the way right off the bat (with the recruiter etc) if you have something that you may think could matter and explain what you've done to correct it. If not, have that quick soundbite ready for the regional.

Anything that involves handling cash, investments, or client info is obviously going to make them look into how you personally handle your own credit issues. I guess if bank employees never embezzled, they wouldn't bother but it does happen. They use a credit check as a way to weed out someone who may be tempted so to speak.

Good luck though and let us know how it goes!

I was once turned down for a PT job working at a bank.

This was about 2-3 years ago and they were hiring for processors. They were only paying $8 an hour but I really needed the extra income so I applied.

I went in for an interview and the manager seemed to really like me but not 15 minutes after I got home, she called.

They had pulled my credit and wanted to let me know because I filed BK in 1996, I was ineligible for employment of any sort at the bank.

This could have been strictly that bank's policy, though.

I have some medical collections. No bk, etc. and I am not in default on any of my student loan. They do ask alot of info on the app about criminal record and "crimes of fraud, misrep., etc -- none of which I have committed". It's just that this could be a big jump for me in my career, and I would hate for it to vanish due to my medical collections.

Thanks for all of the replys.

I work as a manager at a major department store and they pulled my credit after I was hired...my position as Visual Merchandising manager requires me to use a Visa P-card to buy stuff for the store, so they pulled my credit for that...THEY pay the bills on it, not me submiting receipts.

I also think it sucks that car insurance companies pull credit...just another way to overcharge people. I pay my insurance bill by direct debit, so who cares what credit I have? They get their money anyway.

I COMPLAINED TO THE STATE OF COLORADO INSURANCE COMISSION ABOUT "HARD" INQUIRES ABOUT A MONTH AGO...

I used my information from this web site----->AN INSURANCE COMPANY CAN'T TELL HOW ONE DRIVES BY A CREDIT REPORT!!!

Credit scores go up and down on a daily basis...BUT I STILL HAVE NO CLAIMS, EVER...NO ACCIDENTS, EVER...ONE TICKET 7+ MPH (1983)

But if I use a "LOT" of credit one month...(what ever that is)...I will have a lower score...SO NOW I AM A BAD DRIVER??? THEY NOW GET TO RIP ME OFF FOR 6 MONTHS???
