Due to circumstances beyond our control..we found ourselves filing bankruptcy this year. It was TRULY a LOW POINT in our lives.and anyone who says it is easy..has NEVER been there!

Anyway, after YEARS of sweeping things "under the rug" we are FINALLY ready to REBUILD!!

But, have NO IDEA where to start and we are hoping to get some guidance. I have lurked here and have gained VALUABLE information. I realize this is a forum which DISCOURAGES bankruptcy, but any input you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I have done several searches but have not come up with anything. What I am looking for is the steps to take that will help us rebuild.

    TIA for any help!

Welcome aboard. Not everyone here discourages BK, there are certain situations where this is the only step you can take and you take it and then start rebuilding from there.

You can try to start by getting a secured card, Cap one and FCNB may be your best bet. Start by getting one or 2, pay them on time and after 6 months or so look for another secured card to obtain.

Feel free to ask any questions you like on here and pay no mind to a few posters that think you should just let you debts charge off and then get them removed by any means legal or not.

    Welcome to the board.

If you use the search option at the bottom of the page you will see that a few of the members here have filed bankruptcy and lived.

Many say that it is easier to rebuild after filing bankruptcy than if you used CCC.

This board is very helpful and we will try to help as much as possible.

    Once again welcome

First, buy or borrow Stephen Snyder's book "Credit After Bankruptcy" or even better, go to one of his free seminars if you can get to one. (For more info, check out http://www.afterbankruptcy.com.)

Next, get copies of all three of your credit reports (TransUnion, Equifax and Experian) to make sure any accounts from the bankruptcy are listed as discharged. Creditors hate to inform the CRAs that legally you no longer owe them anything.

Finally, check out secured credit cards and loans. If you are a credit union member, that's a good place to start. If not, Cap1 and FCNB are good for secured cards.
