Hello everyone, newbie here. I have poured over the posts and have not really seen the info I am looking for, so if you can direct me to the correct post or help out it would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking to improve my credit score and have noticed a few things, what I am not sure of is exactly where to start (to be clear what should be done in what order).

I have 3 collectionsâ?¦two are a medical from 02.2006 and one is with a Cable Company. The total reporting is just over $350.00.

I also have 2 â??late paysâ?. One is about to expire in December it is from 12/03. The other I tried to talk to the credit card company and they have no record of it.

So here is what I would like to know:

    1. Do I send a letter to the CRAâ??s first to validate the CAâ??s report? OR do I send a letter to the CAâ??s asking to validate and copy the CRAâ??s on the letter?
    2. Do I ask the CRAâ??s to remove the â??Late Payâ? by investigating it? OR do I send a letter to the Credit Card company to remove it and copy the CRAâ??s?
    3. Does it matter which I do first?

I had originally talked to a professional to do the repair but the price seemed pretty steep for what I needed fixed (along with a 6 month contract). I figured it would try to do it myself and if I failed then I would consider a professional source.

Thank you in advance for anything you can tell me.

I would dispute any inaccurate or missing information through the CRAs first, and then send Debt Validation letters directly to the CAs as well. Have the CAs already been contacting you regarding settling the debts?

No, I have heard nothing from the CA's. I was actually shocked, that the cable collection is on there as I recall i closed The account when I moved.

Then dispute away and come back to let us know what response you receive from the bureaus.

Re: **UPDATE 10/13** Credit repair help (Which do I do first)

    Update

I received a letter from Experian today and I wanted to check with anyone here who may have any tips or if the request is pretty straight forward. I sent a request with my full name, address and a list of the items I wanted investigated. Also provided I send itemsâ?¦I donâ??t want to give them too much? My Driverâ??s License has my parents address (where I lived over 5 years ago) however the info I am challenging will match that address. Are they just giving me a run around?

â??We are unable to honor your request because you did not provide sufficient identification information for us to verify your identity. Please read the information below if you would like to order a copy of your personal credit report or if you would like to request an investigation of information of your report that you believe is inaccurate.â?

They then provide me with addresses, phone numbers and a website.

    Additionally the â??information belowâ? states:

â??The Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act states â??A consumer credit reporting company shall require as a condition of disclosure that the consumer furnish proper identification;â?? therefore, if you write to us, we must require all of the following to process your request: full name, including middle name and generation (such as JR, SR); current mailing address; Social Security number (required to obtain your report); date of birth; and complete addresses for the past two years (including apartment numbers and ZIP Codes). In addition, enclose one copy of a government issued identification card, such as a driverâ??s license, state of military ID cart etc., and one copy of a utility bill, bank or insurance statement, etc. Make sure that each copy is legible (enlarge if necessary), displays your name and current mailing address, and the date of issue (statement dates must be recent).â?

There is a crap ton of addresses and such so I will skip all of that too.

    Now to the additional info:

â??If you already have your personal credit report and believe that information is inaccurate, visit *WEBSITE*, or you may call the number on your report to request an investigation. If you write to us to request an investigation, please send all of the identification information listed above, and list each item on your report that you believe in inaccurate, the account number and the specific reason you feel the information is incorrect. There is no charge for requesting an investigation. Once we receive your request, we will contact the source of the information you questioned. When we complete our investigation process, which may take up to 30 days (or up to 45 days for an investigation of information in an annual free credit report), we will send you the results.â?

    Signed Experian

They prefer you take the internet dispute route because it costs less and is easier for them to handle. However, I think it's always a better idea to keep your disputes with the credit bureaus in writing. And yes, you may have to provide more proof to substantiate who you are (SSN, copy of driver's license), but it shouldn't be that much of an additional hassle.

I went and updated my Driver's License online, sent a copy of my DL along with the receipt of present address from the state (printable temp DL), gave my SSN and a copy of my electric bill.

I just hope it dosen't get intercepted...there is a ton of personal info in that envelope.

I would love to help you; however, you need more help than you can get from a reply. You need to know what's reporting at all 3 bureaus before you start disputing anything. You can pull those free through free annual credit report. Your problem isn't as comlex as you may think and you could take care of it yourself for free or you may utilize other options.
