I got a divorce back in 2000 and I just recently found out that my ex had put 2 utility bills in my name and had been paying on them for the last 8 years, until recently. The only reason I found out is because the bills went to collection and I now have received the collection notices. The bills are now paid, but I don't know how to get this off of my credit report. My ex admitted to me what he did when I confronted him, but I have no legal recourse according to the police because he set up the bills before we were divorced and apparently "no laws" were broken. I am trying to buy an investment property and need this removed quickly, any advice?

Dispute the entry with the credit reporting agencies as "not mine". While they "investigate they will remove the account. Chances are that CA will not verify it as valid because it has been paid.

If the police took a report, get the report and use FACTA's ID theft provisions to dispute.

Policemen aren't attorneys or courts of law ;)

Did the police take a report if they it should be in their records, that they responded to a call or they took the call over the phone, should be in their log's in their archives. And their was a law broken he used your name to get service depending on your state.
