    Hi,

I have been reading this board for several months but never posted until now. I think it is a great board. I want begin to to repair my credit. I have a discharged BK as of Sept 02. I do have some recently acquired credit since my BK. I recently started Privacy Guard and have seen my credit reports. My scores range from 531-558. I really don't know where to start my journey of credit repair. Would anyone be willing to help me? I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks.

Your best bet is to post your questions and let everyone help you, use the search function and read, read, read.

A good first step is a round of disputes with all three CRAs. Posting what is on your report here will likely get you a plethora of advice on which items to dispute first.

Thanks alot. Looks like this is going to be a lot of work! I have one charge off (CO?) that is set to drop off 12/03. Is this one worth disputing or should I let it drop off? Will disputing it re-age the account? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If it's gonna drop off in 12/03 then it's not having a big impact on your score. I would find other things to dispute first.

When an account has 1-2 months to go before deletion sometimes the rep will delete it for you by phone.

Re-aging can happen. It's not legal, but does happen.

It has been stated that CRAs sometimes use 6 years 9 months instead of the full 7.

Ahh... 6 years 9 months... that's interesting to know. DH has a repo that we disputed with Experian due to fall off the end of this month. Perhaps it will be gone a few weeks early. That would be nice.

I had an account that was 6 years and 9 months and when I called TU to dispute the rep said she'll just delete it because it was so close.

I don't think it's automatic. You probably need to ask.

Make sure you dont dispute the "wrong way". for example, disputing as "not mine" should probably come before disputing as "never late".

have you moved recently? if no, it may pay to change your mailing address on all good CC accounts and then dispute as "not mine", being that it will be harder to verify, as the address is "wrong"...

I have already done an online dispute of a couple of negative items as "not mine". Is it better to dispute online or by letter? When you say "not mine", is that all I say or should I have more of an explanation? I have not moved recently, but I noticed on one of my reports there was a 7 year old address and another address that was completely incorrect. Should I dispute the incorrect address and the old address? They do have my correct address also. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Get rid of all old addresses. I like to do it by phone because you know right away if they will delete them.

If you dispute online you just click the selection that says not mine. I like online because it's quicker.
    Both ways work.

    Nestea,

Hi, let me see if I got this right. In your post you stated to change your address on your open accounts in good standing. And then report the negative accounts as "not mine".

So if I wanted to do this I would change the address on my Positive credit card to .. lets say... my mothers adress. And the negative accounts should remain with my current adress? How would this work? Or do I just have it all wrong???

Sorry for the stupid question but thank SOOO much, in advance, for your help!!

    Trace :)
