i have taken almost two years and i have repaired the majority on my credit. i settled 4 of the 5 accounts that were chargeoffs and paid them. i have one more account that is being paid off with a collection agency now. my fico last year was 564 now it is 568. what was the point of paying the things if my score is not going to change? all of these account are over 4 years old with no late payments in the last 3-4 years. please adivse. also, what are my chances of getting a mortgage with $8k down in august. i live in nj.

    You didn't repair anything.
All you did was reward them for screwing your credit.

You made the same mistake I've seen manny many folks make.

You thought or assumed you could pay things and they would go away.

That will not work. You can't just buy your out of negitave items on your reports

Do you have any open good accounts now?

What is your ratio of debt to credit limits?

That, more than anything else is holding you back. You haven't established your renewed ability to be a good credit risk. You may have to attempt to open a secured card to get you on track...Search here, as there are several good ones that won't report secured.

Also, I have heard Chevron has a "credit rebuilder" type card, search around here on that too.

    Good luck!
