Hey Guys and Gals, This is my second post but I believe this discussion board is more addicting than eBay. The question I have involves credit inquiries. How long do the inquiries stay on the credit report? I signed up on PrivacyGuard on April 1st and I noticed under inquiries they have this quoted. And PrivacyGuard quotes... "This section contains the names of those who obtained a copy of your credit report. Inquiries remain on your report up to two years". Can they stay on the report for longer than 2 years or what? Because on my PrivacyGuard report I have several inquiries that were taken in March of 2001. So do I have a chance of making these inquiries go away? Thanks for your time Sneaker
Inquiries remain on your report for two years. The one you mentioned should fall off on the end of the 24th month which would be April 1, 2003. They can be removed sooner if you dispute them.
You have a really good chance of making these go away, but you probably don't want to. Of all the things that factor into your FICO score, inquiries are the least, and their effect goes away the quickest. If you apply for new credit today (and get an inquiry on your report) that might nick your score for a few points, but the damage will go away in a few months. By that time, anyone checking your report will be able to tell if you've recieved any new credit as a result of that inquiry, and it will be that new credit (or not, if you didn't get it) that will be a factor, not the inquiry that led to it. These two year old inquiries...they are not a factor anymore and have not been for a long time. In a larger sense, if you're credit is good, inquiries don't matter. If your score is in the 700's or upper 600's, a few points one way or another isn't going to change anything. If your credit isn't so good, lower 600's or 500's, then you have issues a lot more serious than inquiries that need to be addressed first.
Thanks for the responses. All of you are an asset to this board and to this hobby of correcting the wrong. Thanks
Re: Re: Credit Report Inquiry???'s Lol! That's exactly what it is, a hobby! For some it's even more than that, it's a part-time job. Thanks for the kind word, I appreciate that. Good luck to you!
