Hello All, I am a little disturbed with something I just found on my credit report. Back in 1996 I had a lab fee from a clinic, which I paid the clinic bill, but the lab fee was separate and I didn't receive it. The lab went under and turned all outstanding bills to collection - including mine. So I have a collection notice on my report. As soon as the collection agency contacted me I immediately paid the bill. Two years later in 1998 I got a credit report and noticed that the collection agency didn't mark my account as paid so I complained and they fixed the error. Now it appears that the fix and final result of this ordeal was 11/98 which is almost 2 years after the actual date I paid and they should have posted it as such. So now I have to wait 7 years from the 11/98 date when it should have been from the 8/96 date! I went to look at my report today and found this error after I thought it was fixed years ago. I don't know what to do. Sure, I can put in a text message on the report but that doesn't alter my score which has been severly hurt because of this collection. I want to buy a house in about 2 years and I fear this will hurt my loan opportunities. Is there anything I can do to get this date adjusted to the right date when it was paid in 8/96? Thanks!
Threaten the CA with a lawsuit because they violated the FCRA by re-aging it. SInce it's been paid, I'm doubting they'll put up much of a tussle.
