Credit report split?

    Hope this makes sense!

I was trying to get my report online today from equifax - I had to call and "verify" my account a couple times because they couldnt verify my information on line. So thats fine, the first time they sent a password that didnt work - so I call back. The 2nd time I could get into my equifax account. So I order my credit report and 3/4 of the information is just gone. I have a report that I printed out from an order I did on 11/14/03 that had all the information on it - including the information that suddenly "vanished".

I call back to them and do the verification thing again. I ask where did all of my information go and the CSR says that it looks like my report has been split into 2 reports under my SSN but that she wasent sure. She says to call the dispute department and of course they are closed until monday?!

Anyone know whats going on? Thanks for any information!

    Yeah, "SPLIT FILE".

If there are excessive inquiries, or you have too many tradelines to fit into a fixed memory space that they allocate per report, then your file gets split into two; both carrying the same SSN. Which report that either you, or the lender, gets is a crap shoot.

You are not an OLD person are you <grin> having had umpteen credit cards over the years?

    *ducking for cover*

It's CRA's responsibility to fix the report. Raise hell if they say they can't fix. FCRA requires maximum possible accuracy in your report. A split report is definitely not "accurate".

    Thanks for replying!

Actually no need to duck :) I'm 25 and have had no reason to had a bunch of inquiries lately. I am pretty sure -although I dont know - that I dont qualify as having too many TLs to fit in (my CR from Nov/03 says 27 "TOTAL" accounts)

I had my first name changed some time ago (3+ years) and noticed that the report from Nov03 has the old name, and this "new" report that is missing alot of my items has my new first name. Also I suppose it doesnt help that I just moved about 30 days ago.

Any other suggestions? Do I just have to wait till monday to call CSC and see what they tell me or can EQ do anything for me.

Another question - since this happened with EQ all of a sudden - will I suddenly have this problem with the other 2 CRAs?

Thanks again for any help and insight!

Re: Re: Re: Credit report split?

I guess your name change and move definitely could have contributed for your file to be split. Although why it hasn't been seen in past 3 years, is a mystery.

27 accounts is not too many; I have 43 accounts over the past 14 years (I'm 35) in my reports, and my file is intact.

From what I have read over the last year on this net, splitting of files seems to occur only on EQ and TU, with TU being more prone to splitting than EQ. Rarely have I seen anyone saying they had a split file on Experian.

I guess you need to call EQ and be more assertive, saying that you need the file fixed NOW. Other than that, sorry, I have no suggestions :(
