I was doing some research and came across that they are using credit reports, scores, for insurance companies and if you have bad fico scores then your car insurance could cost your more money. Also hear that employers are starting to use them too.

This practice has been going on for quite some time. The insurance companies stand on analyses they've done that there is a direct (and strong) correlation between higher FICO scores and lower claims made (and vice versa).

Generally employers use them if the position requires the handling of money, again there seems to be a correlation between FICO scores and employee theft.

In short, your credit report is used as an indication of your character, with the thesis that those who handle their finances better have a higher integrity with other items in their life.
