I got the strangest phone call today from some guy. Here's how it went: Ring Ring Me-- Hello Caller-- Hi Alan, I've been trying to reach you since Monday. I'm ready to send you your new credit card. Me-- I haven't applied for a credit card in almost a year, who is the card from? Caller-- All you have to do is let me verify your current address and then I'll send you over to the credit company to set you up for your new credit card. Me-- Who is this card from? Caller-- Well, I'm not sure at this time, but I will transfer you right over after I verify some information Me-- I never applied for a card recently, I don't want any more credit cards, I'm satisfied, I don't need anything, I'm happy the way I am. Caller-- Well, ok man, you have a great day CLICK I don't know who this guy was or how he got my number or who he is affiliated with, but I believe it was some sort of scam from somewhere. It really bothered me. It sounded like some sort of call center b/c I heard all sorts of voices in the background, probably other agents on the phone as well. Man, this is a creepy world we live in.
I got a similar call....ooohh oooohhh....only they transferred me cause I actually had applied for a card recently, but the second person wanted my checking account number to verify that I had a "good banking relationship"....yeah...good for who? I said no way!!!! and they hung up on me.
IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE...you would have given NAME, ADDRESS, HOME PHONE #, SS#, WORK NAME, WORK PHONE #...they could apply for credit for you, they just put your current address for previous address, and THEY GOT YOU!!! You wouldn't have known for months... GOOD JOB, you have been paying attention.
Here's what you give them: John Q Consumer 123 Easy Street Atlanta, ga 33333 It's the equifax sample report they'll get for testing their equipment.
